Built around the details
Membrane roofs fail at the edges, not the middle
On a flat roof, the open field of membrane is rarely the problem. Water finds its way in at parapet cappings, internal gutters, outlets, vents and wall junctions, and that is where careful detailing matters most. Correct installation is critical to long-term performance, so our team focuses on thorough substrate preparation, accurate membrane application and careful detailing around penetrations, junctions and roof edges.
Ground Up is a Viking Roofspec Licensed Installer. Viking only allows installers who have completed, or are working through, its three-stage licensing programme to install its materials. We also install steel roofing and flashings, which helps where a membrane roof meets a pitched steel one.

Sheet or liquid?
Choosing the right roof membrane
Most flat roofs suit a sheet membrane: it goes down quickly over a large open area and gives a consistent thickness. Where a roof has a lot of penetrations, plant or awkward shapes, every cut in a sheet is another lap to seal, and a liquid membrane system can be the better choice. We recommend the system that suits your roof, not the one that is easiest to install.
An existing membrane roof that is leaking does not always need replacing. Our membrane roof repairs start by finding the cause, and we will tell you if a repair will hold.

FAQs
Membrane roofing questions
What is membrane roofing?
A membrane roof is a continuous waterproof layer, laid as sheets or applied as a liquid, used on flat and low-slope roofs where the pitch is too low for most other roofing.
Can you replace an old membrane roof?
Yes. We assess the existing roof and the substrate under it, then recommend the right system for the replacement and quote for the work.
Do you do steel roofing as well?
Yes. We also install steel roofing and flashings, so where a membrane section meets a pitched steel roof, one team can do both.
Do you work on commercial roofs?
Yes. We install membrane roofing on residential and commercial buildings across Auckland.
